Side Pike and Blea Tarn,
The Lake District
Distance: 2.5 miles Time: 1.5 hours Type: Round trip
A climb of the small peak of Side Pike affords some of the best views in the Langdale Valley and is easy to combine with a trip around the nearby Blea Tarn.
Route:
From the car park at Blea Tarn, you walk down to the lake's southern end and keep following the shore through a small wood. At the northern end you cross the road and begin the steep but fairly short ascent of Side Pike.
From the top, in one direction you look back down to the lake; in the other there are great views of the valley. You can either descend to the road by the same route and follow the lake's east shore back to the car park, or it's possible to continue from Side Pike to Lingmoor Fell, from where you drop back down to the road further south.
